Three changes that finally worked after two agencies couldn't move our rankings
Q: We've worked with two agencies and saw almost no ranking improvement. What actually moves the needle?
A: Stop optimizing for search engines and start matching user intent precisely. Sounds obvious, but here's what changed for us.
Before: Our product pages targeted keywords like "project management software" with standard feature lists and benefit paragraphs. Traffic stayed flat for eleven months.
After: Analyzed what ranked in positions 1-3 for our targets. They weren't product pages at all. Mostly comparison articles and use-case guides. We created "Project Management for Remote Teams: Tool Comparison 2025" and similar intent-matched content.
Q: What about technical SEO issues?
A: Found our real problem in Search Console. We had 124 pages with good rankings but terrible click-through rates. Single-digit CTR on position 4-7 rankings.
Rewrote meta descriptions to directly answer the search query. Added current year markers. Included specific numbers when relevant.
Same rankings, but clicks increased 89% in five weeks. More traffic without moving up at all.
Sometimes the opportunity isn't ranking higher but capturing more clicks from positions you already have.
